The Southeast Asia nation of Indonesia includes thousands of islands—including Java and Sumatra—with rich, volcanic soil. In the tea gardens on Java and Sumatra, tea is harvested year round; most is processed with conventional methods and used in blends for bulk markets.
Exceptions include Sumatra Barisan (or Iron Goddess of Mercy), a high-quality oolong that is comparable to the best green oolongs from Taiwan, and available at TeaHaus.
